Property of the Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos do Porto, S.A., it opened on 18 May 1992. It contains a collection of trams and other public vehicles operating in Porto since 12 September 1895.
Porto was the first city in Portugal and in the Iberian Peninsula to own this kind of vehicles. The collection also includes the American Car – animal traction – which circulated for the first time in Porto on 15 May 1872.
This museum stands in the former thermo-electrical central of Massarelos and it still has an energy transformation central, which dates back to the beginnings of the 20th century.
